- Inflation has recession written all over it

This
past week, economic data
pointed to a deep
contraction in the fourth
quarter. The alleged
good news was a drop in
headline inflation across
the board – for
consumers, producers, and
imports. While the
inflation news gives the
Fed some leeway for
continued monetary ease,
the numbers clearly
reflect a drop in demand
from recession in the U.S.
and overseas.
